I have been on a real prune-note-in-my-tobacco kick for the past few months, smoking my way through a variety of blends that are noted for this particularly tangy, fruity aroma and flavor. It all started with Peterson Royal Yacht, and I find similar notes in their Sherlock Holmes and Irish Cask. It's there big time in Rattray's Old Gowrie, and a touch in Mac Baren Plumcake (with a ton of tongue bite to boot). I have tins of Solani Festival 333 and McConnell's Paddington in my queue yet to try.

There is one bulk blend I've scouted out, Sutliff RL-PR, described as "Straight Burley cube lightly cased with the natural extracts of prune, molasses and rum." The problem is that there are no notes or reviews about how it actually tastes nor performs, and it also seems to be out of stock everywhere so I can't even order an ounce to try it myself.

Has anyone here tried the RL-PR blend, and if so, what it's like? Should I add it to my wishlist and keep an eye out for it to become available? Or is it not available for good reason, namely that it's terrible?

I see it in Sutliff list of available tobacco products, but don't see it available at any of the retailors. You could always call them and ask how to get it. And no, I don't have the number.

I smoked a bowl right after finding it. You can see its a clumped/rough cut that seems dry but actually has a slight bit of moisture to it. I had to rub some out as the chunks are fairly large. It takes the light and theres a bit of a plum topping on light up but it fades after that. The body of the smoke is light and the taste is also mild and is slightly creamy with some cocoa notes and a very slight sweetness from the rum/molasses combo I think. The plum casing/flavoring is very light but pokes through here and there and offers some tang as well. Its very apparent in the aftertaste however and sticks for a short while to the insides of my lips. I smoked this in my Peterson 6 shape which is very reliable and this blend smoked quite hot in it. Going to try it in a few other pipes to see if thats really an issue. Overall a mild and pleasant codger style burley.

I bought this blend and a couple other similar Sutliff blends that I'd never seen before on tobaccopipes.com a couple years ago. No idea if they're still available there.

Thank you for the notes! It sounds like a blend I’ll have to try when I can find it. It doesn’t appear to be available on tobaccopipes currently. They don’t even list it as out of stock. I did find it as a special order via mars cigar, but that would mean a full pound and I don’t know that I want to spend $42 + shipping and taxes on a taste!
