What's your take on Sutliff 1849?

I don't see this blend talked about much, but a forum search shows a lot of 1849 results mostly only in "what are you smoking today" posts. 1849 quickly became my favorite VaPer after only trying four or five different ones. To me the perique is not as strong as others which I think makes the rest of the blend more tasty. What are your experiences?

I have seen others note that this is very strong in perique, is there a reason some folks would have an opposite result? To me "strong" describes the spiciness because the spiciness is the strongest taste in most of the ones I've smoked. I think 1849 is less spicy than something like match Victorian, but I can see that the fermented odor and taste may be perceived more strong with this one. I even read someone liking it to dirty socks. Bleu cheese can be compared to dirty socks, but is also delicious... to some of us.

Is 1849 the bleu cheese of VaPers? Mmmmmm

I've never smoked it but thought it was kinda funny - I had seen the tins around for a while but always assumed it was an aromatic. Maybe it was the name or the bright orange tin, but I picked it up about a month ago and was surprised to see it was a VaPer.

I like this blend quite a bit but it does bite me sometimes. It has a citrus casing to me and I believe it uses both granulated and long cut perique, sometimes the granulated sifts to the bottom of the jar and there is less in some bowls. I think it is fairly high in perique to my tastes. Good stuff and for me, locally manufactured.

I bought this almost by accident when I added Sutliffs crumble cakes to an order to try out. I thought it was part of the crumble cake series but is a ribbon cut VaPer. I'm really glad I tried it since it's turned into easily a top 5 VaPer for me, maybe even top 3. I just ordered some more and I am thinking I may do another whole order of just the 1849, I like it that much.

Interesting that JimInks had a hand in designing it! My compliments to Mr JimInks on a really super VaPer at nice price point!

I spent a bit of time asking Sutliff to make another VaPer, and one day Carl called me to chat about it. I gave him some ideas, and he took them, and added an idea of his own, and sent it to me. I suggested a little more red Va. and more perique. He had 20% and I said add 5% more, which he did. That's how it happened.

They are old-western San Francisco peaches, much coveted by gold miners and often found served in saloons. They were often the preferred accompaniment to a glass of whiskey after a long day on the sluice box.

Aside from the peaches, is it the extra red Virginia that makes this one stand out from other VaPers?
