I'm in seriously considering buying a stubby, specifically as a car pipe. Thinking about the Morgan bones "20".

So the question to pose... What makes a good car pipe?

I have several short pipes with relatively ample bowls. MM cobs makes some of these, durable and not expensive, about $25 in the limited editions with acrylic stems. I also have a handmade Jerry Perry, sort of tomato pot shape, with a fine thick shank and amber colored stem, equally thick, that are durable for car use, travel, etc. Al Fascia's short Chubby pipes fill this bill as well. You have a good range of prices and materials. People seem to like their Morgans.

started with morgan bone stubby pipes. they are nice for their price. but i keep cracking the bottom of chamber on those. probably due to trying to smoke the last bit. still have handful of them, but prefer my petersons. peterson just put out a bunch of short pipes, but not interested.

I would go with a bent pipe. With a straight pipe you may smack it against the driver side window or heaven forbid the airbag goes off...

It all depends on whether you clench. I don't, so churchwardens are more comfy as I can just rest my arm on the console and sippuff away.

I have a short poker from Morgan's line. Its a great little pipe, real workhorse. It's also great to see them color in with the oils from your hands. Should make the drives more interesting checking on the progress.

Any pipe can be a car pipe, of course, if you are looking for a clencher than a stubby (nosewarmer) would be the way to go. I have all of the Morgan Bones stubby pipes that have been released so far, and out of all of them, the 20 and stubby pot are the most comfortable for long clenches.

If you are looking for something more pricey, Briarworks and Moonshine seem to have some nosewarmers about.

Standard here too, and, actually, gear shifting is the only thing that kinda interferes with my piping: if the contents of the chamber are kinda loose, my gear shifting can knock them around and put out the ember. ?
The rubber bits shine for driving. They act like shock absorbers so bumps in the road and shifting barely disturb the pipe.

I’ve been leaving this pocket sized ‘Dinky’ in the car for when I get the urges:

As to the question what makes a good car pipe?
I initially thought one that you can easily (safely) light one-handed. Then realised that was probably more a skill of the pipe smoker rather than the pipe itself. So maybe the question is what makes a good (safe) car pipe smoker?

I use cobs and easy clenching cheapos. Light and preferably either long or bent for easy one handed relights without having to cross your eyes (thus taking them off the road).
