You always hear about "stoved and unstoved virginias" in reviews and tin descriptions. What exactly does it mean?

It means that some are stoved and some are unstoved.
No but really, stoving is basically cooking the tobacco at a low temperature, it sweats the leaf and changes the flavor, and darkens it. I'm not 100% sure, but I think it also carmalizes the sugars.

Stoved Virginias are very mild, but have an amazingly sweet scent and add a little bit of pleasant sweetness. They are like adding euro black Cavendish, but a little sweeter. I use often when making a Scottish style. Good stuff. Watch City uses stoved in a number of their blends. Good to smooth the blend.
