I was drilling out a vulcanite stem to see if it could be made to draw better, and it shattered. So I opened it up to look at the slot, and found that it went farther into the stem than I expected. And with that profile, I'm guessing it was formed using a press rather than some sort of cutter.
Another interesting find - the brownish tone goes all the way through the material. I hadn't tried to buff it back to black but now I'm wondering whether it would even be possible.
