Some of you may know that I got a Stanwell for Father's Day. I have posted a pic already, but here it is again for all the pipe porn addicts.

Of course the first thing I did was toss the filter, but I was wondering, how many of you use the adapter? I have it in right now, but seems to me that tar would build up between the insert and the stem. I will try it both ways to see what I prefer; just wanted to see what the general consensus was.

Sometimes pipes that have the filter slot can have a draw that is too open. I us the savinelli balsa wood inserts. They are cheap, they help airflow and they absorb moisture making it a drier smoke. I change one after every smoke. Its a good option. You cant taste it either.

@hobie1dog You mean you can't recognize it by sight alone now? :nana: It is Penzance.

Nice Pipe Griz. Looks about the same as the Sav Saturnia I received for fathers day and

ironically, Penzance is what it was loaded with for the inagural smoke.....

Nice looking pipe for sure. I have a couple of 9mm Winslow's from the European market and I do not use filters. I think they smoke great without them.

Hmm, maybe I won't try smoking it without the adapter; seems like once you put it in it is there to stay. Nice tight fit.

Some of my pipes have the adapter because the draw was a tad too open while in others I don't use it. Experiment and see which way you like it. Congrats on the Stanwell. I have several and they are nice pipes.

Wish I had taken a pic before I put it in as I can't get it out now. It is a length of material same as the stem with a hole drilled trough the middle of it. It takes the extra space in the stem where the filter would be if you used it. Hope that makes sense.

grizzly....I have 3 Lorenzetti's that have the adapter and I never have a problem with them and my guess you won't either.
