Not a British pipe, but a British shape.

I picked this up several years ago. I smoked it a few weeks back, and it’s been sitting on my desk since then. I’m not always real good at putting stuff back where it belongs right away.

Woke up in the middle of the night, and this pipe caught my eye. I sanded the chamber cake back a bit, cleaned the mortise, airway, and stem. Wiped the outside and waxed it.

I have a few other pipes that are of this profile. A Moulin Rouge, Orlik, and a few that escape me at the moment.

I checked a few vendors online to see what I might find in this shape. Apparently this shape was retired or renumbered some time ago, and the 229 shape is now a bent saddle stem Brandy. Not that I really need another pipe, I’ve got pipes I bought years ago that have sat unsmoked. My brain is just wired that way.

This is a somewhat smallish, stacky, thin shank with some length. One of my favorite shapes.

The innertube leads me to believe this was probably made in the late 1940’s - early 1950’s. It’s a fine smoker…
