So in the past few months I've succumb to some serious PAD. Well, at least for me. I picked up 5 new Stanwell's. Apparently I have this thing for Canadian shapes and all the variants. Anybody else a fan of Stanwell's. I feel like I've gotten some really quality pipes and my bank account isn't hurting either. Getting the hang of this all so pics to come. And if anyone happens to have any pics of nice Stanwell's I'd love to see them.

I have two; both are Shape 32 bulldogs, one brushed brown, one brushed black. Hard to imagine more bang for the buck - I love 'em both. I was drawn to them because they remind me of the old Dr. Grabow wire-carved finish, which has long been out of production.

I have two 32 bulldogs, a pot in the Sixten Iverrson design, and a Canadian, all obtained at excellent prices from pipesandcigars.

I've only recently begun to appreciate the Canadian and Lumberman, but appreciation of the Lovat alludes me.

I've had a number of Stawell pipes over thIe years, and I have found them to be well made good smoking pipes. I have three at this time, and I can guarantee you I'll never get rid of at least two of them. One of them is my wife's favorite pipe that she bought almost 30 years ago. The other is a similar shape, but suffered a badly cracked shank that I fixed with the brass base of a 410 shotgun shell. It's not perfect but it has become my pipe now and I love the way it smokes. (has a little gunpowder taste now)
OK, my wife's pipe is the larger one with the smooth finish, mine is the sandblast with the home made shank repair.

Not sure if this information is correct, but I heard Stanwell production moved to Italy a couple years ago. If thats true, then I have purchased two Stanwells from the Italian factory: a bent dublin and a designed by Nanna bent apple. The Nanna for some reason only smokes FVF really nicely (not complaining), the dublin… …broke before I finished the first bowl. The stem literal just broke in half. I assume there was a flaw or weak spot in the acrylic to begin with. Stanwell was good on sending out a replacement stem (to China), but I never received it. The drilling is really bad on the dublin (high in the mortise and leaves a trench at the bottom of the bowl).
I really like Stanwell designs and shapes, but I'd probably go for an older estate if I were to buy another.

The marketing guy for Lane's was interviewed by pipesmagazine about a year ago (name slips my mind ...) and he was asked about pipes. He said he was a tobacco guy but not so much a pipe guy, but he smoked mostly Stanwells because that is what came across his desk (I think he meant he got them gratis, which sounded nice). It was a tribute to Stanwell, though, for their special role with a Lane's pro.

I have at least two Stanwell pipes and love them both! Don't have the pics on my phone tho! One of them is a "Nana Iversen design"… That is probably the closest I will come to something like that!

What a timely thread, I snapped this picture for another forum just the other day. Love Stanwells, especially the registered number era ones. All of the pictured ones are reg era, besides the two Handcuts. I recently got an italian production model 32 but I haven't smoked it enough to make a judgement yet. The mechanics and fit seem fine though.

Those pipes are really pretty. I think the smooth flowing features on Danish style billiards are quite pleasant to the eyes. I like most billiards. They are precise yet simple, but the Danes (imho) do a really good job of breathing some life into them.
