I don't know this blend, but with most blends, if you are comfortable smoking flake, the flake version will give you a more intense experience of a blend and will stay fresher somewhat longer. I like loose tobacco, but I like flake and plug just a little better.

I have the flake and as far as good flakes out there St Bruno IMO lacks flavor and is really just a meh! Type of blend. Condor full flake is much better IMO.

I have a special place in my heart for St. Bruno because it was the first traditional British baccy I tried and it really flipped my lid --- I didn't know stuff like that was out there and the experience with it was what started me off researching and looking into the history of the British tobacco industry.
I have an Ashton lovat dedicated to it and it really sings deep when you can find the right pipe where it clicks perfectly then keep building the Holy Ghost of St. Bruno in it!

You can order it from mrsnuff dot com, but be ready for sticker shock. The tobacco taxes in the UK are very high and then you have to pay shipping from overseas.

Thanks Okiescout,

I really really fell in love with St. Bruno!
:
As for the high cost of Royal Mail,

I like to wait until MrSnuff has his shipping deals, usually once a quarter at some point,

either half off if you spend $50 or FREE if you spend $100+
Emailing with inquiry to Glynn Quelch is also a good idea...

FYI, I tried to order Condor and St. Bruno from Gauntleys. The order failed to process, even after several attempts. I When I next tried to use my card, I found it was blocked by my bank for suspected fraud activity. I had it unblocked but ti was blocked three different times during the day and early evening.
To add to the aggravation, I got an email from Gauntleys saying that they couldn't accept my order anyway because credit card companies prohibit them from shipping tobacco to the USA.
So, all that and no Condor or St. Bruno. :crying:

Yeah, it's a major problem because the tobacconists in the UK abide by strange rules apparently writtn by the cc companies...I don't know why it's so complicated or how it came about to be, but that's the sad fact.
Here's a FAQ from Black Swan Shoppe and they explain it thusly:

Q. Why can you not send tobacco to the USA?
A. Because the American government has more red tape and daft ideas than ours. Different rates of duty are charged across the US states. Mail order companies in states where the Duty on tobacco was significantly less where putting other tobacco retailers out of business. No tobacco retailer in the US is allowed to ship tobacco across states and no overseas retailers can ship tobacco into the US. Like it or lump it we are not allowed to do it.
Q. Why do you not accept card payments for overseas orders when other UK retailers do?
A. New card rulings have been recently introduced preventing retailers from shipping restricted products overseas without first obtaining legal documentation from the destination authorities allowing us to do so. Not all retailers are aware of this and some retailers are blatantly ignoring this in search of a quick buck! It will not last long and just pray your order has been dispatched before the retailer in question is shut down! Before choosing your retailer check they are part of the AITS, the governing body of tobacco specialists. These are legitimate UK specialist tobacconists and should provide you with a good honest service.
Q. Do you ship to the USA?
A. We are not allowed to ship any tobacco leaf to the USA and we cannot take any card payments for overseas orders. If your order does not contain any tobacco leaf and you pay via bank transfer then we can ship to the USA.
The reason why James Fox

http://www.pipedivan.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=2_85
and Mr. Snuff can sell to the USA is because they're operating out of Ireland, which for some reason disregards whatever the crazy dumb law/rule is...

I've ordered Condor from both Peterson and the Pipe Divan without any problem, and as regards credit card fraud checking, one phone call to my bank resolved that.
To me most tobaccos offered by UK tobacconists don't appear to be worth the price for which they sell or ship, but I feel Condor is a major find even so. I'd smoke a great deal more of it were it not so expensive. I'm hot on St. Bruno, and also Yachtsman, Walnut, Warrior and Mick McQuaid plugs, which I believe are available from both the Pipe Divan and James Fox; Dark Plug Rose Geranium and Bosun Plug and others from Glynn Quelch's GQ Tobaccos; and the German HU Tobaccos, which hopefully won't be as expensive as UK tobaccos.
There was a reference to James Fox's prohibitive US shipping policy, and in an interview from ~2012 Mr. Quelch said he also couldn't ship to the US, but I saw nothing on James Fox's website stating this, and apparently a member has bought successfully from Mr. Quelch. Maybe shipping policy changes rapidly, but these prohibitive policies might also be nothing more than old, internet echos.
These tobaccos may be just that good and worthy of the price; Condor is. But being overenthusiastic about cellaring them in quantity would be appear to be a dream in the same way as purchasing fine cigars @ $10 and up per stick.

The original Ogden's St. Bruno Ready Rubbed that came in a 50g tin was one of the finest tobaccos ever produced (IMO, of course.) I hoarded a dozen tins a few years ago from a private seller and unfortunately, they have all been consumed.
I have purchased and smoked the pouch version that is readily obtainable in England, and while the taste is similar, the current version is not nearly as elegant as the old, tinned St. Bruno Ready Rubbed.
I found the current version to be tasty, yet lacking in refinement. It is in ribbon form and packs and lights easily. It is somewhat powerful in the nicotine department and the taste is of quality Virginia leaf that has been cased lightly.
The no longer produced tinned version was more of a shag cut with a deeper, darker Virginia flavor that was loaded with nicotine and the casing caused the blend to smell and taste of hints of fermented raisins.
If you want to sample a quality, cased Virginia that packs enough wallop to keep the kids away, I can easily recommend this blend. If you are fortunate enough to locate a sealed Ogden's 50g tin, please forward it on to your friendly neighborhood Pipestud.

Steve - I came so close to pulling the trigger on at least one of those old Ogden's pouched you had recently, slight hesitation on my part and it was no longer an option! I'm so glad you're providing a venue for this stuff and so many great old toby goes through your shop. Thanks for providing such wonderful service.

In other news,

I was gifted a 5 sleeve of JBRussell era 100g Flake tins recently by a very very very kind and wonderful forum member who knew of my love for The Great Saint but requested to remain anonymous so I never publicized it --- the JBR tins of this are notorious for seal failure and this was the case with these and they were all dried out, but when you mix the real-deal Ogden's dry stuff 50/50 with current production stuff the end result is simply divine!
I love it!

:puffy:
Many thanks kind sir!

You have added great joy to my smoking life!

I have the stuff in stock for a member of this forum and if he doesn't respond to my last PM I will offer it out to the members although its the RR stuff. Those who know me know that I just do it at cost plus postage as a service to the chaps here. I will keep you posted over the next week. We are not talking a lot here maybe 5 pouches as most of my friends buy the plugs through me.
