I recently purchased a tub. It's ok, but reminds me a lot of my cigarette days. I plan to save half, and blend half with something else. A straight Virginia is the obvious choice. I am looking for other ideas to make it interesting.

How dare you defile the mighty Granger with a lesser weed. Blasphemy!!!

Mix it with various components until you get something you like. Plenty of pipers customize tobacco.
Sorry, I know this will offend the Gods, but I can't get past the cigarette taste. I am going to keep half undefiled.

I kind of agree that Granger is a stand-alone, but if I were compelled to mix, to stretch the supply or something, I'd try cigar leaf or unflavored black Cavendish, or a generous pinch of single leaf Virginia. It is not the best blend to be tinkered. For that, I'd get a single-leaf burley without molasses flavoring.

I agree with you on disliking tobacco that tastes like cigarettes, for me it was SG Golden glow...sold off the unopened box and mix it with Newminster - No. 400 Superior Navy Flake....but it's up to your tastes!
good luck

My dad was a Granger smoker. When he died I probably had 10 tubs. I never liked it by itself. I think it’s kind of tasteless. I mixed a few tubs with CD Pegasus I had. Honestly it was wonderful. But anything will work. I mix things all the time. Never found anything horrible by doing that.

Try a Shelby Foote formula: 2/3 EGR and 1/3 Granger.
Never tried EGR, but I am not much for Latakia. The only English blend I like is Davidoff. Sounds interesting though. Also sounds like an expensive experiment.

400 is my go to Virginia. I thought about that, but was hoping for something other than Virginia, that maybe somebody had already tried.

EGR only has one percent Latakia. You barely notice it. As for expense: a tin isn't that expensive, but it's your decision.

Maybe a strong flavored oriental like GLP Temple Bar?
Post with impressions of mixtures you've tried. I am not a huge fan of OTC blends, half and half being my favorite.
Enjoy

You probably won’t even taste the Lat. And you can buy a tin nowadays, you don’t have to buy it by the tub anymore. It’s a great blend if you like something mildly aromatic and easygoing.

If that is true, I might buy some just to try anyway.
I've smoked about 20 tubs and around a dozen tins or more of EGR. At most, the Latakia is an accent. There are times it's virtually undetectable. If you do try it, please let us know what you think.
