Innertubes were supposedly created as a solution for those didn’t bother to clean after each smoke. After the tube became to narrow to get a good draft, it was taken out, thrown away, and replaced.

One story I read was that innertubes were created for the more effete gentlemen who wouldn’t lower themselves to such a task as cleaning the draft of their pipes.

I owned a 1927 Dunhill that had an original tube, and I smoked it with the tube in place. Never had any problems with the draft...

Nice pipe, a classic Dunhill!
Looks like a great smoker to me.
I'm quite surprised how well this lite pipe smokes , right of the bat, quite amazing,even with the innertube inserted,now I will put this to the rest ,and next time shall try it w/o the innertube,hands down my best prince pipe ever,and over the year I have had these various prince shaped pipes quite a number,,
