Some Before and Afters

A couple of pipes on the bench this week. First off, this Lorenzo Sabbia #1346 S:

Before: Mostly dirty and dinged.


After:




Second is a Dr. Grabow Savoy. Just needs a cleaning. A lot of fills, but I'll sand it all out and re-stain it.



After. I nice big, solid pipe.

Some nice birdseye on that Lorenzo.

Years ago I came across a pair of Lorenzos in a B&M in Auckland, NZ
One had killer birdseye on both flanks but was almost twice the price of its rather plain twin.
Being an impoverished university student at that time, I bought the cheaper, plain Jane.
Much to my regret later. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the one I chose.
It just didn't have the looks

That was my very first encounter with grain

it always amazes me to see what can be done with an old pipe. Just how fresh and new they can look. Pipes that look spent and well past their prime.
