I had my finger tested and it turns out that it was not made in the Czech Republic. I’m still not sure what I should do about that.
The BIC turned out to be genuine. Stamped China right on the bottom there. Phew! 
For some reason this episode comes to mind ?
Lokk, there could be thousands of fake pipe tools in circulation. We'll never know for sure, cause most guys will never admit to having been ripped off like that.
This is sure to have a negative effect on the estate market for czech tools.
Be sure it's a "Czech brand" pipe tool before you buy. Then Xerox the certificate of authenticity.
I do have a fake Czech tool. Real one on the left, Chinesium one on the right. The real one weighs almost twice as much as it is made from thicker metal.
Czech tools are actually a knock off of a Bulgarian pipe tool.
Exactly. I didn't want to say it, but back in MY day pipe tools weighed nearly a stone and had 17 attachments, including one for nose hair.
It's not fake, just grey market. No warranty with that one.
I have a Czech tool that was made in China. It’s all quite the conundrum.
It was me that made the thread. The fake one most likely came in a starter kit from one of the pipe retailers so I didn't buy the tool based on the impression that it was a "genuine" Czech tool. It was just a nicely priced bundle with a no-name basket pipe that got me into the hobby.
The real one I did buy singularly so I'm glad things worked out that way.
I think it was actually Hungarian. I have a Hungarian linage finger that works pretty well.
