I was working on this pipe yesterday morning and I guess I was just having an off day. I rusticated for an hour or so and was not pleased at all with the final results so then I went back over it and still wasn't happy. After a some reflection and a nice break I went back at it and came up with this. It reminds me of some sort of artifact off of ancient aliens, proving the existence of extra terrestrial interaction in pre history lol. Over all I really like the way it came out. What do you guys think? Fire away!

You obviously went into the future and stole the design of the pipe I was about to make (except for the stem). I forgive you.

:D
I really like it. It is the kind of carving/art I personally gravitate toward. Organic, lots of texture, and interesting in a non-linear way. Good job!!

OK here's the deal, you don't tell anyone I have a time machine and I won't snag any more future designs.

Proof. That we were put here by "them". Also, man was meant to use pipes to smoke delicious tobacco :puffy:

With such a shape and finish it was easy to shift into the ridicolous, but you kept it original and organic to itself.

Good work.

That's pretty cool! I usually defend folks making artsy or weird pipes, while knowing that I probably wouldn't smoke them, but that one would be fun to smoke. It would definitely start conversations. Nothing brightens my day as much as someone walking up to me while I have my pipe and ask me about it. Give me one person commenting on my pipe for every twenty people who sneer or give that fake anti-smoker cough any day. Nice job!!

Damn you, JParker. I love your pipes. Everytime you post one (be it here or on ebay), I get the urge to buy it. This is no exception. Your pipes always remind me of something I'd see wandering through the cypress swamps in my backyard. I love the gnarled twisty wood designs you end up with.
One of these days I'll have ~$100 in my budget when you're selling a pipe and I'll buy it.

Thanks guys! I really appreciate the comments and input on my work. I really enjoy reading what you all think. It helps me out quite a bit getting feedback on the different pipes. I can make them and think they look nice but that doesn't mean other people will. Which I realize that my designs aren't for everyone but it's nice to get some outside opinions from time to time. :) Thank you all again!
@ foolwiththefez - msg me sometime I'd me more than happy to work with you.

Amazing texture on that. Sophisticated, kind of like some African art. I think, from here, you could play around with modulating it some. You could go even more extravagant, mind-blowing, but also tune it back just somewhat, a little smaller bowl and shank, with the texture still active but not quite so deep and edgy. It's sort of your own style or way, and it bears exploring some more, or that's my take on it.

Thank you mso489, thats really what I have been doing is exploring my style, trying different textures and finding out what works and what doesn't. I have already sold this one but I will keep your advice in mind on other pipes in the future.

Here is the latest one I've done. It's quite a bit different but still stands out.
