I thought a thread in which members could get to know one and other better would be nice. I was think maybe some small talk as if you were sitting beside a stranger at a local cafe having a coffee. A place where we can talk about our occupations, families, hobbies and etc...If anyone is interested feel free to post.

What the hell. I'll play.
I live in Fort Worth, TX. 42 years old, married no kids no plans for kids.
The wife is now a high school history teacher having left a throne in corporate America. She worked for the guys that will "absolutely positively get it there over night" for about 10 years.
I run the Catastrophe Claims operation for a major Insurance Company. Think hurricanes, hail storms, tornadoes, EQs etc. Almost certain more than a few of you are our customers. So if your house blows away one of my people will come help you out.
Have a couple dogs. Boxers. Lucy and Chester. I love these guys. They are much better entertainment than anything on TV.
I'm a rank amateur pipe smoker but long time lover of tobacco in general.
Some trivial facts about me:
I once played bacci ball with George Brett. And won I might add.
I'm a die hard KC Chiefs fan. (die hard is redundant for any Chiefs fan these days)
I won both my Fantasy Football leagues this year; and therein likely shot my lightning in a bottle wad for the rest of my fantasy football career.
I'm a published poet.
I simply do not understand Algebra or any math with letters in it.
I'm an avid reader. Heavy on the mind candy suspense/thriller genre. But usually have a couple "legitimate" books burning too. Typically history or leadership theory stuff. Some current favorite pop reading authors. Harlen Coben, Greg Iles, Lee Child, Jason Pinter, Kyle Mills, John Sanford etc.
I recently stood next to Minka Kelly in a beer line at a concert in Austin. I'm forever changed by the experience.

I'm in too...
I'm 34, live in Washington state, and work as an engineer. Math with letters in it is fun! :)
I have a couple cats that really aren't very entertaining, but are rather large (they've been on diets and are down to 14 pounds, from 18 pounds).
I've never cared much for sports in general.
I just can't seem to quit the cigs no matter how hard I try. I love pipes and they are a great hobby...but cigs are the addiction. :(
I enjoy large Sudoku puzzles (16 x 16 instead of the standard 9 x 9).
I had to google "Minka Kelly"! :)

Couldn't resist tossing my hat into the ring:
38 years old with a wonderful wife and no offspring. None planned.
I manage a Title Insurance Company in Green Bay Wisconsin, No I'm not from here but Yes I have Packers season tickets. Please refer back to the wonderful wife comment.
I run Northeast Wisconsin's largest cigar (& pipe) club (shameless self promoting plug about to come: www.cigarnightonline.com ) and work part time at Titletown Tobacco.
I am the lead singer of a 3 man band called 12 Volt Band and I wish I was Jimmy Buffett.
I am addicted to this website.

Thanks for posting. I just thought it would be something different. I'm twenty eight and live in Tennessee. I have been a carpenter for 10 years. I'm currently unemployed, go figure. I have two children, a daughter 11 and son who is almost 2. I have been married for two years, to a wonderful women, no matter what you may read elsewhere in the forum. She is a pharmacy technician and thankfuly working. I was raised an Army brat and chose to follow in my fathers footstep when I graduated high school. I served four years in the Army. The corp of engineers, where I learned to be a carpenter. I was stationed in Alaska, and deployed to Kathmandu, Nepal to build a earthquake resistant hospital. I'm a avid baseball fan (Chicago Cubs) that's where my family is from. I've been smoking a pipe for a little over two years and enjoy it alot. Guess that's about it.

Reading other posts in here made me realize I left off a couple things in common...
I, too, have a wonderful wife and have been married for nearly 16 years now. No kids and none planned.
I am also a drummer in a 3 man band and wish I was... Jimmy Buffett too... er... Neil Peart, I mean. :D
Perhaps we have another thread that needs to start... Pipes & Musical Instruments?

That's kinda weird 3 fairly "old' married guys with no kids and no plans to have any.
And I'll blushingly add that I'm a closet singer song writer. Been playing the guitar since 3rd grade and fancy myself more a Robert Earl keen rather than Jimmy Buffet. But it's really just a matter of slight difference in longitude. Pretty similar artists. One from Florida one from Texas.
I however have never had the cajones (or talent)to do it in public. So a 3 man band is way out of my league.

Hey! I'm including myself in that group. I like to think of myself as a soon to be full fledged silver back gorilla.

I'm 35 (will be 36 in a few more months). I have been with the same woman for 16 years and have been married to her the last 12. We have no kids except for our animals, which believe me, should count as kids. They are just as hard, if not harder to take care of.
I love reading and movies. I am (more like used to be) a movie buff. I have started to really get into wine and beer the last year or so, but am still a super noob at them and don't know too much about either.
The only sport that I really love is NFL Football, although I do occasionally watch most other sports.
The closest thing to a musical instrument that I can play, is when some of my pipes whistle while I smoke them.
I have been using tobacco products in one form or another since I was 15. I got seriously into pipes in 2006 and seriously into cigars in 2008. While I do enjoy cigars, I have always enjoyed pipes more than cigars.

I like it! Good bump Hobie.
I'm 57, married to a wonderful woman that I've known since the 8th grade.

Three sons; a welder, a construction superintendant, and a Surgeon. We have three grandkids.
Built a house out the in the country, been a firefighter downtown Oklahoma City for the past 24 years and gettin' ready to follow my wife into retirement.
Music and baseball are my passions, played drums in several bands traveling around the country and a pick a bit of guitar, and I love clothes from the 40's and 50's and have more old fedoras than I have room for.
When I was young and dumb I rode bulls and broke horses, now I just sit by the pool and pet the cat!

I'm 50 years old. I live in Portland, Ore. with a remarkable southern lady-my wife of 16 years-, a lazy corgi, an incontinent cat and three recently adopted Russian teenagers. I'm an historian and professor -- particularly interested in late antiquity and early Byzantium. I've been known to translate things that nobody really wants or needs to read from long dead languages just for the heckofit.
Caught the Red Sox bug when I was a student in the 80s, never got over it. My son is mad for soccer, but I have to admit I've proven incapable of enjoying the game. I'll be attending some Portland Timbers games this year, nevertheless. My musical tastes are pretty idiosyncratic, but I tend to always come back to middle brow 20th century music. My favorite musical work has long been Vaughn Williams' Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis
My favorite pastime is sitting in my den with a good pipe and a good book.

Little Rock
I'll drop a few lines about me as well. I grew up in Northeast Louisiana, on a small farm that my grandpa started in the 1920's. I'm 43 and currently live in Bryant, Arkansas, just 12 miles Southwest of Little Rock. I have been married to my second and final wife for a little over a year. I have 2 daughters that are 10 and 13. One of my favorite hobbies is deer hunting, however, I don't kill many deer. I always find myself waiting for the big one while a lot of smaller, tastier ones always walk right on by. The music I mainly listen to is classic country. I just can't leave it behind for some reason. I'm am stuck in the 70's and 80's. I do enjoy some good old Southern Gospel from time to time. I have spent the past 24 years working as a Structural Designer and drafter for several engineering firms. I'm currently unemployed and looking for gainful employment. I spent 6 years in the Air Force Reserve as a Crash Rescue Specialist, stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, La. I started smoking a pipe last spring on a whim. I told my wife that I have always wanted to try it so she gave me a big push. I have enjoyed every minute of it and will always look forward to lighting a bowl of whatever I have on hand. And like so many others, I find myself on this forum reading and learning from the greatest group of guys around. Right now, I need to log off and start making a cheese cake that I promised my wife and kids. Might sneak out and smoke a pipe if the temp stays above 32 for a little while. Everyone have a blessed day.

Wonderful thread. I'm 62 years young and unfortunately I'm a widower for three years. I had thirty one wonderful years with a brilliant and beautiful wife and I have three grown sons. I'm semi retired now working seasonally for the Internal Revenue Service. I get to work close to home for six months of the year and "vacation" on unemployment insurance for the other six months which is a wonderful job experience. I am a former hospital administrator and clinical practice administrator as well as a former campus director for a graduate program in hospital administration. In addition, I taught three classes each year for twelve enjoyable ones. For fun and relaxation, I served as an Auxiliary Police Officer with my county department for fifteen years ending in 2000. Yes, my own radio patrol vehicle, shield, gun and uniform. Worked in the community and on the Highway Patrol.
Now semi retired, I have an opportunity to enjoy my pipe, read, relax by the pool in the summer months and of course sit by the fireplace in a lovely home as I'm doing now on this snow covered day on Long Island, New York. While keyboarding this afternoon I'm enjoying C&D Engine 99 in a large oom paul and chasing with Jim Beam Bourbon on the rocks. I have not yet posted my introduction on the appropriate thread so you guys are getting a personal and private preview. I'm relatively new on Pipesmagazine but you'll also find me on Brothers of Briar and Art of Manliness on the web in the Pipe & Co. group. I'm enjoying my time with you and look forward to hanging tight with you all for a while. Enjoy your pipes today, live large, and be comfortable in the celebration of manhood!
