This is my first pipe, a Medico paneled billiard that I got from my local B&M along with a pouch of straight Black Cavendish from Smokers Pride. Lets just say that experience wasn't all too pleasant. Newby smoker with wet tobacco and a plastic pipe is a recipe for disaster! Scorched tongue and hands made me a little hesitant to pick a pipe back up for a while, but I'm sure glad I did!20220730_224153.jpg

My first pipe was a brylon. I smoked some lane 1-Q. It was not a horrible experience, but the pipe did get incredibly hot. Over the next couple of months I kept trying to build up a cake, which I finally realized may not be possible when your pipe is made of smooth and slick nylon.

I know I still have the bowl of that pipe in my collection, but somehow I have lost the stem. I wish I could find the stem because I would like to try smoking that pipe to see if I could smoke it much cooler than my first few months.

My first attempts at pipe smoking were a miserable failure. The pipe got tossed when I PCS’d to England.

My second pipe was an Italian basket pipe, which I burned out, third pipe, an Italian bent basket pipe, which I still smoke. Bought it in 1990.

My very first pipe is long gone but this is the pipe I bought when I decided to start smoking a pipe again. It’s a La Rocca pipe. Not my favorite but I probably smoke it the most because it was cheap so I take it camping and hiking all the time.

I started with a Peterson Darwin, I believe it is. A large bent pipe. Like many of us here starting off, I had no idea what to look for or what I wanted. I'd heard from the old guys, way back when that Peterson was "the best pipes in the world". Well, they're ok, pretty good some of them.
I bought 8 oz Lane I-Q, 8oz Lane BCA and 12oz Half & Half. I was going big, with no intention of going home!
Needless to say, I burnt my tongue. Put the pipe away and bought a MM corn cob and a tin of Solani, I don't remember which one. Anyway, better results with the cob & Solani.
