Hi,

I had someone in another forum bring up a concern about my new AKB having it's tenon glued into the shank. Possible toxicity issues and weakening of the tenon due to heat? It's a 9mm set up and I have seen others done the same way. Fits my White Elephant filters well. I do have another 3 weeks to return it if I want. SP said their AKB higher end are known for their quality. Any opinions on this would be appreciated. Thanks

I decided to contact SP Europe about this, since the had an AKB that was very similar. I figured that they deal with a lot more 9mm Meerschaums. This was their answer and glad we can put this topic to rest:

"The tenon is typically bonded into the shank using a high-quality, heat-resistant epoxy adhesive. This adhesive is fully cured during the manufacturing process and has been carefully selected for use in smoking pipes. Once cured, it is non-toxic, odorless, and safe under normal smoking temperatures. It does not release fumes, affect the flavor of your tobacco, or pose any health risks during use".

"Additionally, the adhesive has excellent thermal stability and will not soften, degrade, or come unglued during regular smoking sessions. This ensures a long-lasting, worry-free smoking experience".

Kind regards

Hope
