Ok guys, I gave in and started the restore of the pipe yesterday, as I supposed it wasn't easy going as both bowl and stem were awkward shapes to work with but I got there and think I did a reasonable job. That said, I can now see that more work is needed on the stem :crying:
I may have another go at the staining as I feel it is a little lighter than I would have wanted and doesn't quite do the lovely grain justice. Anyway, here it is....

One of the most interesting bird's eye briar I have seen. Crazy nice bird's eye to my eye.

Looks really good to me Jay! Interesting grain to be sure, almost birds eye inside of birds eye. Looks like sliced tobacco coins, maybe like Cabbies Mixture. ::

Interesting observation Orley, however Shalom pipe = nice whereas Cabbie's Mixture = not so nice

Orley, regards the Cabbies Mixture, now I have smoked a few bowls in one of my favoured 'sipping pipes' I have to confess it is growing on me, some gorgeous flavours halfway through the bowl on the retrohale. Am still learning and on the whole enjoying the journey ::
