Selected Straight Grain Basket Pipe

Here is one of the first pipes I purchased back in the early 90's at a local Tinderbox. It was a basket pipe, but the grain was amazing. The stem is not vulcanite and has France stamped into the shank end. Only other markings are Selected Straight Grain and the number 64.

It feels like it in the mouth.

I'd say the stummel is Comoy's made, or Chapuis-Comoy made. 64 is definitely one of their shape numbers.

I have a very similar pipe with the same stamping I purchased in Oregon in the 80s. Apparently made by Comoy, they would be pretty highly graded if it were not for the fills.

That was my thought too. Mine has two pretty big fills (1 - 2 mm).

Selected Straight Grain pipes were originally a Specimen Straight Grain until a fault in the briar was found.
Specimen SG pipes were the highest grade of Comoy pipes.
