I’m not sure if this is the place to post this but I’m in search of Dunhill shape 197 F/T.

Size, finish or year not critical but prefer pre-1967.

It is similar to the 196 but longer stem.

A true classic in my book.

Good luck on your search! There are a lot of collectors here so hopefully there is a Dunhill out there with your name on it. I quested after a Christmas 2015 Peterson for a while, and when I found it - perfection. Nothing like finding a pipe you've sought for a while. Good luck!

You are in the right spot. (get it!)

The 197 seems to be a somewhat rare bird. Esterval's had one, of course now sold, date unknown. I didn't find any currently or past on Ebay.

Good luck, I love a dedicated shape search, keep us posted and be vigilant.

I assume you have a search set on Ebay?

If that's it, it is a fine shape, long-stemmed billiard, rusticated I presume. I'm not a Dunhill guy, but I will say they do traditional shapes with a special touch.

I say “I think” 1958 because the 8 is raised but doesn’t have the underline:

I have a 1958 shape 42 shell where the lettering and date code are identical but with the underline.

I have one that looks almost the same as a 197 but the model number is 43031. William at estatebriarpipes.dk has one, a shell from 1980, unsmoked...

Aloha to all....

I didn’t mention it but I have a 197 1966 Shell size 4 F/T.

This pipe it’s what’s got me going on this search.

Thanks for the feedback, photos, referral info and support.

A bit more of a challenge than anticipated.

The 196 is very close but when put next to the 197 and the longer stem, 3.5”,

it creates a certain streamlined quality and brings the

overall length to a hair over 6.5”.

I have been watching the usual sites for another

but no luck so far and realized this forum

would be best place to post a request.

the 197 was typically the smaller capacity brother to the 196. Typically both will be about the same overall length - tho' you'll find variations. If you're interested in the newish version, as mentioned above, it is the 3 or 4303. The 196 and 197 I have from '50's have much more pronounced cylindrical bowl shaping than the newish billiard bowls, buy ymmv. You can always ask your favorite Dunhill retailer to order one for you - tho' it will take some time to arrive, I have found the new Dunhills to smoke as well as my older ones (even unsmoked older ones). No kidding - the new ones are very good smokes! I recommend tho' to not pursue a 4303 with a very small diameter shank - as is popular apparently in Italy. I think a pipe should have a decent diameter shank....just me sayin'.
