Just pulled the trigger on this thing. Usually the grain on Savinelli’s smooth pipes at the $100-ish price range is nothing to write home about, but I thought this one had a lot more going on than usual, so I nabbed it in a moment of sleep deprivation-induced weakness. It was a 616, the only smooth Marte they had in that shape, and had better looking grain than some of the Puntos Oros, so I couldn’t pass it up.

Looks good! My third pipe purchase - which was also my first new (i.e., non-estate) pipe purchase - was a Savinelli New Art Brown 144KS. Its grain pattern is very much like that of your new Savinelli 616, but turned 90 degrees since the horizontal "tiger stripes" are on the sides with the birdseye on the front/back where as yours has the birdseye on the sides with the horizontal stripes on the front/back. It definitely caught my eye and was an easy decision to purchase it!

Thanks for the kind compliments, everybody. I can always count on finding some enablers here! ?

Anyone have a Marte? I’m curious as to whether the copper is sealed to stay shiny, or uncoated and meant to take on a patina. I like the look of copper either way, and use it quite a bit in my knife fittings, but I was just curious.

Iv'e never noticed the PuntoOro to really be fancy enough to justify their price. But that Marte is dead sexy.
Many of the Puntos up right now are indeed quite plain for the price, at least among the 616s.

I got to answer my own question about the copper. It is not coated, and had a tarnished fingerprint from the factory on it when I took it out of the pipe sock. A quick wipe with some ammonia took it off. Now it should patina uniformly. I was impressed with the grain for the price.
Having a bowl of Hamborger Veermaster in it right now. I guess I’ll just smoke Virginias in it until I decide to dedicate it to any other genre. But I’m thinking I need an Ennerdale pipe…

Very handsome. I think your pics show off the grain even better than the seller pics. Enjoy!

I recently bought a Savinelli 606 KS with a similar design, slightly smaller and lighter in weight, but with a good big chamber. I really enjoy it because it really unfolds a blend.
