I don’t normally write tobacco reviews and hardly have the palette or tobacco note vocabulary to do justice. Regardless I felt reviewing this one is appropriate considering how much I am enjoying it and it could be insightful to others who are looking to replace some burleys that we have recently lost.

I was recommended to try this one by a few after posting a thread searching for hh burley replacements. I happened to have a tin that I had been holding on to.

In the past few days I have smoked nearly half the tin which is quick for me.

First off opening the tin the presentation was terrible lol. Once its packed and burning that is irrelevant but don’t expect an hh experience when opening this one.

Upon opening the tin the rum topping is extremely obvious. Smells very alcoholic. I enjoyed it although it was stout and may not be pleasant to everyone.

Over the time it has been opened the rum topping has mellowed a lot and now has a sweeter smell that surprisingly has a hint of berries.

The taste is right in the lane of hiking and hh burley but unlike both blends. You get all the flavors you would expect from a blend in this style but the rum topping really is what sets this one apart from others.

I can taste the hint of berry in the smoke but its like its not there. I keep searching for it and it keeps my attention. It isn’t a sweetness but a faint ghost of a berry flavor. My uneducated guess is the way the tobacco flavors interplay with the rum topping creates what can be compared to berry.

This may not be the same experience for everyone and I say all of this as someone who is not a fan of heavy toppings. If you are looking for a good burley that is a little different from all the others don’t let the fact that its topped with rum stop you from trying this one.

This one didn’t replace any of the burleys we recently lost but it is most definitely a new favorite.

Forgot to add in the review but another blend that this one reminds me of and possibly comes closest to is Lamb with Jam by The Country Squire. A blend they aren’t producing anymore. I am not sure how long it was in production but it was amazing stuff.

As soon as I bought a few ounces to try they took it off their website. If they ever produced that one again I would buy pounds without hesitation.
