I remember reading that he wrote The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald from an article he read while having coffee one morning.. Amazing.
Some interesting changes to the live version, he did make a few changes as the investigations changed, somethings he just didn't have the right jargon, and one was "in a musty old hall in Detroit they prayed..." someone from that church was upset and told him it was not a "musty old hall" so when he sang it live one of the changes was "in a rustic old hall in Detroit they prayed.."
