Today, 57 is like a child. Shakespeare died at 52, as did my late wife, and she was just in her prime. At least Biz left recordings to mark his trail.

That's a bummer. "Just A Friend" is one my favorite songs to randomly play on a juke box in a bar. It seems like everyone digs it.

Agnes, Agatha, Germaine and Jake are particularly upset.

Those life expectancy figures are misleading. The ones they usually show are life expectancy at birth, not taking into account all of the people who are lost between birth and age 65, so if you make it to 65, your life expectancy is greater than that, and at age 75 it's still greater, and 85 still greater. Doesn't mean folks can't kick off any time, but the older you are, the better the (remote) chances that you'll reach 115. Most of us will depart far sooner than that, but it is a happy and defiant thought that you gain a little ground as you go, in the actuarial department.
