I think this means as you reach milestones on getting out the EU your going to lose access to some things that you were used to getting. I know that Rattrays is made in Germany and it wouldn't surprise me if McConnell's is also made in there.
I saw this too, in GQ Tobacco's May Newsletter. Can't draw conclusions, but I think kcghost is on the right track regarding EU/UK trade rules. Both Rattray and McConnell are made, I believe, by K&K, which is very much going strong.
there will always be more blends discontinued then available. Always. Though I've also seen these reports on many blends that are still around. When it's inaccurate it always seems to be the same story. The blend changes who distributes it and suddenly the rumors start flying that it's going the way of the dodo. Like not too long ago all the lakeland blends where going to not be sold in America.
I'm hoping it's a Brexit consequence rather than Rattray's and McConnell's biting the dust. Really fell in love with their Virginias and it's already a PITA to find stateside.
But right now it's in stock at Esterval's, TurboTin says it was in stock at Boswells and MarsCigar as late as Dec 2. Hiland seemingly got an order early in 2022. Which is pretty standard. It'll take either K&K themselves announcing it or a retailer outside the UK confirming it's extinct.
This is related to Brexit fallout. Hopefully it will get corrected once all the politicians are imprisoned on Devil’s Island.
K&K makes both the McConnell and Rattray’s blends. The actual blending houses ceased to be decades ago.
