Rare Sasieni Patent? Give Me Some Learnin’

Tell me what this means. On an 8 dot panel: Designs Pat 22/9/25

This also has a town name on it. Town name 8 dot as early as 1925?

You have two things going on with your pipe, one protected for function (US utility patent 1513428: see https://patentimages.storage.googleapis.com/f6/04/00/26a6b1115c7846/US1513428.pdf) and the other protected for design (UK design registration 711951). The former refers to the “stinger”, the latter to the paneled shape (here’s another example of the latter: VTG Sasieni fishtail Pat # Regd # London Made 72 SB Estate Tobacco Smoking Pipe | #1823221986 - https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/vtg-sasieni-fishtail-pat-regd-london-1823221986). I’m not aware of a US registration for the 711951 (which in American terminology would have been a design patent, not a utility patent), but I can say definitively that the UK design registration was registered March 25, 1925 and after renewals was in force in the UK through March 25, 1935.

Fascinating. I knew about the stinger one. The other doesn’t come up too often if not at all. So the design (US term) would date it within that 10 year mark. And the use of a town name is late 20s. So probably 28-35?

Sasieni began using town names in the fall of 1923. My 1924 Sasieni catalog uses town names.
