So since we all know Rad is now retired I was hoping ya'll can give me some other suggestions for similar quality pipe craftsmen with pipes starting in the $300 range.

You should check out the artisan review thread I started. Don't have the link handy but if you click on my mame you'll see "Some Artisan Pipe Reviews" under threads started. It really depends on what you are looking for. Each carver has their own styles and nuances. Some are better sandblasting than others if you like blasts.

Definitely check out Ryan Alden, Lonestar on these forums. His pipes are at that $300 price point and damned good for the price you pay. I am up to seven of his pipes with more definitely planned.

Quite a few great American makers out there now.
Some of Jerry Crawford's work reminds me of Rad:

I think Bob Hayes, in N.C., does some spectacular refined work, traditional but highly individual too. He's in that price range. I especially like some of the mixed finish briars, with rustication and smooth.

At NOLA, I called Ryan Alden "the next Rad Davis".

Russ Cook is on another level, particularly cost wise. He's up there near Todd Johnson and Jack Rousch and perhaps Micheal Lindner.

I'd also recommend Chris Asteriou. I don't currently own one, but have a commission in the works. The Asteriou's I've handled are outstanding.
