Question about hand-buffing and restaining

I just noticed something in the OP. It may just be the quality of the photos, but the stem on that Stanwell doesn't look original.

BTW, I asked and the seller posted more photos in response: it IS the original Stem and the logo is there. He’s got it on backwards. It’s just so oxidized. It REALLY looked wrong. But, turns out it’s right.

I too read and re-read Steve's hints on Rebornpipes.
I bought a few old tatty pipes and practiced on those.
I know my limits - anything really good, I'll let a professional deal with it.

Keep at it. It'll become second nature after a few pipes.

I've been lazy in the past and let a caked estate rim sit in a very shallow pool of Murphy's Soap. Now that I don't fear running water and soap hitting the wood, I'd probably just scrub with with dish soap and a toothbrush.

Logo is correct. Many flip the stems over.
