The joys of flyfishing no matter what you are using is “The Take”!The moment your size 22 fly is slurped. On a 6’ 2 weight rod and a Ross Evolution reel there is nothing more exhilarating. It’s you being in a clear stream like the South Holston River enjoying takes all day long that brings peace in the kingdom . A shore lunch followed by a favorite pipe and observing trout feeding is bliss. At 77 I’ve returned to enjoying my new Savinellis with a fine Burly Blend like C&D’s Eight States is nirvana.
I restore museum artifacts , I’m now retreaded and pipe smoking is reuniting with an old friend. I’ve enjoyed your diatribe on what is good tackle .

Welcome from North Carolina
Thanks for your welcome Fur Coat . I live in NC and travel to TN a gem of a State and been fishing near The S Holston . A guide worth is salt should take you to “The Riffles” where ultralight spin tackle with small CD (controlled diving ) 2” Rapalas are the Bomb! When fly tackle doesn’t produce and the river is generating power. South Holston Fly Shop and their guide service is worth looking into .

A fresh caught and grilled Dolly on a one weight Sage is my idea of the perfect ending to an afternoon of fishing a high mountain tarn.
Was in a Jackson fly shop years ago and access shown a 0 wt! Not trying to outdo you but the line must be the thickness of a cobweb lol

Welcome from Pennsylvania and New York.

That experience sounds great. I have a good friend that is an experienced fisherman that I hope to learn from at some point.

My single experience catching a fish was with my best friend in the sixth grade. Armed with an orange fiberglass rod from a bicycle flag with some fishing line tied to it with a hook and a ball of Wonderbread rolled into a marble on the end, we sat on the edge of a rotting wooden dock in Brooklyn and I caught what I was told was a Lafayette.

Not that you want to talk about work, but, I hope to hear about your museum restorations. As a book collector and archivist of many things, that kind of thing would be cool to hear/read.

Howdy from Idaho.
May your loops be tight and your flies right!
Hmm, asking you if you could only use one fly... is just about as dangerous as asking someone on this forum, if you could only smoke one tobacco… ?
May you have many happy trips afield and as many relaxing Lunts at the edge of your secret fishing “hole”.
Welcome to the forum!

One of the late great Forums members was fish'n'banjo, Sante Guiiani, a world class collector of classic fly fishing gear as well as artisan and other tobacco pipes. Welcome aboard. You are in that great tradition.

Welcome from Florida. I gave my 26 fly rods to my daughter and son in law. I’m using baitcast stuff now due to an injury. But you’re right about fly fishing. You should see my granddaughter catch a redfish on the fly in shallow water.
