I just had my first bowl of 3P last week. I think it’s my first actual steam pressed plug, rather than the looser American things that are called plugs. It burned so much slower and longer than I expected! Cube cut, with a bit rubbed out on top, it took a couple of hours to get through a bowl. Great flavour, the whole way through. Strongish nicotine, mind you. Have to pack a smaller bowl next time.

PPP is an awesome tobacco, I just wish they still made Warrior Plug as that was even nicer and my meagre supply has to be rationed to one plug a year to make it last.

A) that's a handsome looking flake cutter you got there!

B) Don't know why I never thought to use a "tobacco flower" grinder - even though that's exactly how they're advertised on most websites.

You have to make sure the cutters are pyramid shape and not rectangular. It's pretty easy: If it comes with a pollen screen, it's for the wrong "weed" This "Cookie" shape is the only one on Amazon for the right "weed".

That Cookie grinder is perfect for flakes! 7 bucks on Amazon. If you just grind it one way, you get nice longer ribbons. If you go backwards and forwards, you get nice bits. Aside from the consistency advantages it saves the hand if you are rubbing out dense plugs :)

If you get one, make sure the cutters are Pyramids... The square ones are for some other type of stuff some people like to smoke. I forget what though.... But I hear it's pretty popular In Colorado. puffy
Cookie grinder it is! 7$ in the Amazon. Will go check them out as I like some sort of consistency in my rub and plug!

@sandollars I'm thinking about picking up a plug cutter. Did you use anything to clean it? Also did you have to sharpen the blade?

It's mostly Cast Iron so, soap and water was the extent of the cleaning I did. I wanted the original Patina from the 1800's. It would be easy to repaint black and guild the letters to original if so desired. Mechanically, I lubricated the moving parts with Food grade grease (only because I have some for my Coffee Roaster's drum bearings and chain, otherwise I would have used anything i had lying around) after the cleaning.

Regarding the blade:

Yes I did work on it. It looked like someone tried to cut a nail with it so it had a small ding in the blade. This won't do at all. If your tobacco does not cut completely square and off the plug, all sorts of mayhem and frustration breaks out.

I first removed the divot and squared it up so that the cut was perfect to the base, then I sharpened it to a fine hone. It cuts like butter through plugs (and surely fingers so beware!)
