I've heard that a pouch of OTC tobacco will taste different than a tub of the same brand because there is less of the preservative chemical. If I remember correctly, they specifically mentioned brands like Captain Black and Sir Walter Raleigh Aromatic.

Is there any truth to this?

Carter Hall is definitely different in the pouch than the tub. Totally different cut, and more Burley in the tub more Virginia in the pouch.

I have to try to find my comparison photos.on here somewhere

I've never had both versions of a blend in hand at the same time to be able to distinguish. I'm not happy with the idea that brands sell essentially two different blends under one brand name, and don't attempt to approximate the same blend in both packages. I hope there are many (or most) blends that don't do that. Continuity, even given the differences the packaging might introduce, depicts the integrity of a brand, or lack of integrity. Screwing with your customer is never a fine idea. If I personally encountered that in my own experience, I'd drop that brand like a dead stone.
