Recently came across a Calabash pipe that I thought was a legit gourd pipe and amber stem but when I asked to inspect it closer it turned out to be a Goede porcelain pipe in mint condition. Are these things decent smokers? I've already seen a bunch on ebay for relatively cheap and they must get awful hot when smoking? Any info would be appreciated.

I hear they smoke insanely hot. No idea haven't tried one. Most of the ones I've heard about are treated not as tool but as decoration. I've never once heard anyone ever say anything good about how they smoke.
That's the type of info I like to hear before I let PAD get me going on an ebay spree buying junk and trinkets lol. Thank you

I have a Royal Copenhagen double-walled porcelain pipe which I bought in the mid-70s which does not see much use because of its small size (group 1-2) primarily.

I use it mainly as a tasting pipe, as porcelain gives a "clean" taste.

It does get rather hot despite the double walls. And it is heavy, despite its petite size.
