When cellaring, does leaving tobacco in the manufactures 1 pound plastic bags ghost the tobacco with a plastic taste?

Sorry to revive an old post.

Has anyone tried sealing an entire 1 pound factory plastic bag inside a Mylar bag?

I would advise against this. It was something I was considering also, since it’s more convenient, but I was too worried about the plastic bag taste being present in the tobacco. I dumped the tobacco directly into the Mylar and heat sealed it just to be safe.

It would just suck so hard to open a Mylar bag in the year 2032 that you’re excited about only to find the tobacco tastes a little bit like zip loc bag. Not worth the risk.

What would be the point? Sealing in metallized food grade Mylar protects the tobacco against drying out. You can split up the 1 pound bag into portions so that you only open what you're going to smoke and leave the rest alone.

I really doubt there's going to be a plastic taste or why would the factory use the plastic bags. But yes you're better off sealing in smaller bags and opening as you smoke as the tobacco will hold up better

Currently I have let's say many many 1 pound bags of Sutliff blends. One thing I've noticed with their English blends I cannot smell the Latakia through the thicker less flexible factory bag however I can smell it through some of the smaller amounts I've purchased that were repacked by the re-seller in thinner sandwich type bags. The factory bags seem to have a bit of vacuum to them. My guess is the factory bags were designed for long term storage and to not impart plastic flavor that would cause loss of quality. Have to figure these were packed months before. Some maybe years depending on the amount of sales. Why would Sutliff risk low quality? Personally I am in the process of packing the factory bags into vacuum sealed Mylar.
