Careful not to drop it. It would break, like a clay pipe. The advantage of plaster is that you may add to or subtract from the material after it is finished.

well i have soaked it in wax so it is a bit softer then normal. and i have used it and it fell fine there was a problem when sculpting it and so the neck it to short to put a filter so there is some particulate coming up the stem and the air flow is to big but cutting a filter and placing it in solve this problem the other thing is i have a tendency to smoke to hot and the outside stay cool longer so tongue bite is a bit of a problem

I made couple of pipes (experiments) using plaster. First was made with PoP, but i found that its kinda crumbly and when exposed to heat (and pipes burn kinda hot) gets powdery. I also have used high grade class IV plaster, its much harder, a bit heavier and more resistant to heat. You can see and read some of my experiences in these two threads:

Class IV is also not perfect, i'm currently working on a new compound. Hopefully, something better than that :)
