I hear a lot of you talk about knowing when drops happen. How do you find this information out? I keep an eye out on here for talk about them and have used that knowledge to get a few. Thank you! I’m just wondering if I’m missing a resource somewhere.

Some websites allow you to sign up for email notifications. For example, on SmokingPipes.com, if a blend is out of stock, you will see a button that says "email me"

I do subscribe to them all the time. The problem is I don’t watch my email all the time and by the time I read it there sold out. Usually the same day they send it. The information that I used from this site was an advance day and time. That way I can plan to be online at that time. Never not been able to get what I want that way.

Continuing the SP example...
I'm using gmail, and the Google algorithm routes notification emails into a sub folder called "Promotions".
But, you can change that to route those messages to your primary inbox. So you're going to have to participate, even if it means checking the forums, emails, or as @Chasing Embers said, Insta.

Certain places permit you to go on a list and they contact you when it comes in. The problem is that sometimes they are rather slow about this and the product is gone.

You can also use this feature to get emails 5 to 6 hours after the drop so that you can think you can get something but actually find out that most people on the forums are a more reliable means of information than SP's "Alert Me" option

Honestly, the threads that get started here when things become available are more reliable than that feature on their website.

For the most part, the email "alerts" are useless, because, by the time you receive them the product, if really limited, is already sold out. Unlike Iwan Ries, Smoking Pipes and other on line stores won't hold a wish list blend for you to pick up when it drops. Iwan Ries will take your wish list order, put you in their queue, and when your turn comes, will hold your order and give you three days to claim and pay for it. The rest won't do jack shit.

So how do people know of a tobacco drop days in advance? Like the rest of everything, it's social connections. They've made friends with people working at the stores or the distributors, and get advanced warning. If you know any of these people they'll share that info with you, as long as you don't spill it. And if you do spill it, you're out.

If you've been a good customer at a B&M, the owner might reserve something you're wanting to have, when it comes in. Again, it's social connections. I used to send the owner of one of the B&M's I shopped at, gifts of some tobaccos that he couldn't get in the US, as well as some out of production blends I knew he liked. In return he set aside for me some hard to get blends when they showed up and gave me a call. I got what I wanted while other people got zip.

The threads here are great for instant notification once something has dropped. But often, by the time it gets posted here, I've already finished my buying.

Connections are where it's at for advanced notice. Start building them.

That's always my experience with the SmokingPipes alerts. If it's something that is usually out of stock, unless you are prepared to order immediately upon getting the email you won't be able to get it.

I have yet to find a comprehensive publication that publishes them all on a monthly basis. Following multiple merchant pages and their mail lists is the best way,

With respect to Mac Baren Stockton on Smoking Pipes, I can't even see the description page, so I can't even sign up for an alert. If I browse through Mac Baren, it doesn't show, of I search for Stockton, I get 0 results.

.The tin art shows a 2021 LE date. They could have found a few odd tins, but no one on any forum I follow was able to score any, even acting immediately on receipt of the emai.
