Trying to stall another briar purchase, I decided to polish my way through my "collection" with a jeweler's polishing cloth, actually two pieces of fabric, a mild abrasive and a softer buffing cloth, thanks to sablebrush who had this sent to me by the supplier, if memory serves me (and thanks, sablebrush). So off I went, and my compulsiveness served me well. I have a cabinet with about thirty pipes, a rack with twelve, and round stand with ten, and an open rack with eleven. It did help me stall an online purchase, but I arranged to have the pipe brought to the pipe show on Saturday, so it's not quite a home run. It certainly reminded me of which pipes were getting smoked and which needed smoking, at my moderate rate of use. It did get the pipes brightened up. Now I need to dust those open racks. Polishing pipes all at once is an eye-opening experience. At least I still remember them all, and know if they've seen any action recently, which most if not all, have. I stayed on my feet, just to keep my attention focused. In nearly all cases, I could remember exactly what drew me to that pipe. Wow, do I have good taste ... for a thrifty pipe buyer anyway. If I were fishnbanjo, peck, or foggymountain, I'd probably not be heard from for months trying to do this. Those guys need a staff!
