Is there even any language at all down there, or is it all just slang?
I married a Canadian, and moved to Canada years ago. I had to remove all slang, slow my speech, pronounce my words properly, some words I had to pronounce with a Canadian accent just to be understood (we say water like 'woodar') If I called home for a yarn to a mate my wife could not even understand what I was talking about. Now back home in NZ I can speak my language at home and my wife mostly understands although she sometimes needs to put the subtitles on.

Hefner had a TV show for a while on which he acted as host at a sort of variety show party. He had some heavy hitter musicians, actors, and comedians. He sometimes smoked a pipe on the show, and appeared to be a newbie pipe smoker. He tended to rattle the bit against his teeth into the microphone (not visible but just overhead no doubt). It made his pipe smoking look kind of corny, but was probably a good ad for pipes.

I've wondered sometimes whether he was a pipe smoker, or did so 'for the look'.
