About a year ago I posted pics of the first pipe that I carved. I didn't use any power tools except for applying carnauba wax.

Recently, after finally regaining feeling in my hands, I ordered another block (a plateau this time) from Vermont Freehand. The only difference this time was using my new Harbor Freight bench buffing machine for wax application, which is a life-changing tool for under 60 bucks. No more terror-inducing episodes involving a 5000 rpm Dremel nut skittering across glass-smooth briar!

I've been eyeballing the Sherlock Holmes series Mycroft lately and decided to try my own bargain basement rendition of a semi-bent Dublin. Here are some self-explanatory pics of fairly low quality:

I had a little light spot on the edge of the bowl, as can happen when staining, so instead of fixing it I just made it go around the whole bowl, That changes it from a flaw to art. ;)

I made a pipe rack recently too. I could have used an extra shelf.

Ooo-la-la, what a nifty pipe. I'm an eternal fan of the old Savinelli 404 yacht shape, 8404 in the Rossi line, and this is an artisanal enhancement of that, in some ways. Such an elegant take on that general traditional shape, which I think most agree is not an easy thing to do with any classic shape. You've got the talent, on only a second attempt. Wow.

Thank you mso! I remember your kind words when I made the first one, and I truly appreciate all your compliments.

I wasn't familiar with the ones you mentioned until now, very nice. I like Zulu pipes too, but I couldn't pull off the canted bowl with a straight cut briar block without it being a little...weird.

Time for a drill press.

I forgot to mention...this is a pretty large pipe, bowl about 2.25" tall and about 6.25" length.
