I thought I was carefully breaking in my newest pipe, but I found that I had a 1/16 inch deep, 1/8 inch wide, 1/2 inch long burn - DOH!!! Quite a hot spot!!! I remembered a thread here about pipe mud, I can't find the thread, but I remembered how to do it. I got an ashtray of a friend's cigar ashes, added a few drops of water, stirred it to a paste, filled the "hole" and got it very smooth. Let it dry for 2 days, then slowly filled the bowl, slowly smoked and it worked great! No more hot spot and the bowl now has a smooth cake after about 5 smokes.
THANKS to whoever put up the post about Pipe Mud!

I was in serious despair about the burn in the bowl, but the pipe mud totally fixed it - I'm smoking PS Navy Flakes in my new Savinelli Duca, sitting outside enjoying burn hole in pipe - what burn hole! Thanks for the pipe mud recipe and fix.
