I’ve been talking to Mark a bit over the last few weeks getting some blocks sent so I can try to carve a few pipes when I make it back home.

I got an email the other day from smokingpipes.com and saw some new Tinsky’s on there. I had no idea that the guy I was talking to was the carver who made those pipes. Turns out I lived just down the road from him for several years. When I finally go back to Alaska, I’ve got to go through the old stomping grounds in Montana and plan to stop in and see him, perhaps buy something in person. Regardless, after all of that I figured I’d pick up one of his offerings and this one really caught my eye:

I love those Tinsky’s. I am planning a Tinsky purchase, hopefully, a commission, for my 60th in about 7 months.

I'm in the process of figuring out what I'd like to commission right now. I asked Mark about it and said I'd like to pick it up in person on my way through, perhaps with a break-in bowl. He seemed keen on the idea.

When you do, tell the hobbit I said HELLO!!
My first of about 25 Tinsky pipes was in 1998. I’d seriously look at his TanBlast pipes, my passion/addiction.

He is the most approachable guy I know. When we talked on the phone we did end up talking fishing more than pipes. Damn. I think I need another of his creations.
