Peterson Pipes - Is This The Norm Or Was I Simply Unlucky

I have two Petersons. A Shannon XL02 and a X220 Donegal Rocky. The Shannon is just wonderful. However, the top of the bowl on the X220 is not cut level. I didn't even notice it for weeks. The pipe smokes well, but that flaw just drives me nuts. I was just too busy talking to the tobaconnist about pipes instead of paying attention to the task at hand.

Like I said, I love my Petersons and it will take more than 1 anomaly to prevent me from buying them.
Needless to say I would prefer being able to inspect a pipe before I buy it but because of my location I have to buy over the internet and have it delivered, hence the reason for my initial question. I don't want to post pictures because I don't want this to become a smearing campaign. I just wanted to know if I can be comfortable buying Peterson over the internet again or not and I thank you for giving me the necessary information to make that decision.
