I just got a Peterson Hinged Lid 106. It's been lightly smoked, and in beautiful shape, barely broken in.
My question is this: what is the best way to clean the char and soot on the underside of the lid? Silver polish? Water?
I know that cleaning normal tarnish on silver, car wax or silver polish work well, but I've never tried cleaning soot.
Thanks.

Nice score! My pipe buying days are getting short, and that is on the 'elusive' list. Elusive at a good price, anyway.
So congrats on finding one!

Thanks for the tips and advice.
This has been one of my grails. My other is a hinge lid 408.

Thanks for the kind words. I got it off of eBay, from Germany. When I opened the box I was blown away by it's beauty. It's drilled for a 9mm filter. I have 2 silver spigots with 9mm filter drilling, it doesn't bother me at all. I don't smoke them with a filter in, and I have no issues, not really a drawback to me. I actually have less/no gurgle issues with 9mm drilling than with standard drilling when it's humid or I push the pipe a bit.
I am extremely pleased with the pipe, and looking forward to smoking it tonight with some 965.
1 grail off of the list......now to find a 408 hinged lid.
