I have once again experienced the generosity of this forum from a member who shall remain anonymous...you know who you are.

Now it's my turn and I do it with pleasure. I'm giving away a Nording freehand that's been lightly smoked.

First posting telling us a story of the ongoing generosity of this forum and a commitment to pay it forward gets the pipe.

You don't need to send me the pipe, but I can attest to the generosity on this site.
A couple weeks ago I offered some tobacco that I didn't like to anyone that wanted some. I've been trying sinse 2016, just didn't like it.
A member here said he would like it, so I said great.
While getting his address he wanted mine, insisting on sending me something in return. I told him NO, that's not the plan man.
He insisted so I told him EXPLICITLY to just send a couple bowlfuls.
Well, obviously he didn't get the message.:)
A package shows up with a few samples, ok.....and a tin of Peterson Standard Mixture.........and a tin of Peterson Early Morning Pipe.
So I offered some tobacco, and he sent MORE than I sent him......I think, not sure how much was in the jar. :)
I did sneak in a couple other goodies because I thought he may over do it.
You know who you are!

So, let's see if there's enough interest in keeping this going....

What would you all think of an ongoing gifting thread?

We all all have something pipe related that we either never use or simply don't like. Why don't we just pass them around? I'm thinking especially to the newer pipe smokers. As they gain more experience, they in turn will pass along stuff to newbies (or more experienced members)

I’ve had generous interactions along with straight up good deals on this site, there’s lots of good members!

Then there’s the guy that sent me some GH&Co samples, that got me hooked…as a guy that’s been clean and sober for quite a while, I should’ve known the first hit for free always leads to paying a dear price in the long run🤣

I’d be game to spread the joy.

I’m a newer pipe smoker and Think this is a great idea. I’ve only been at it now for about 8 months or so but I can’t even begin to tell you the immense satisfaction I’ve received just by being a member here. Not only is this place the perfect way to learn about this hobby but there are also great deals in the for sale sections. I’ve been able to buy a few tobacco‘s that I otherwise would have probably never been able to find anywhere else. And each time I did there was always a few extra goodies sent along with what I purchased. I took part in the secret Santa thing this year and man I was just blown away at what transpired over the next month or so. This sort of kindness and generosity makes being a member here a true joy and gives me the sense of being part of something great. It’s a fellowship of sorts that I’ve been looking for my whole adult life really. And even though I’ve never met any of you in person some of you almost feel like big brothers and sisters to me. I can always count on getting good advice from you all so I don’t make those little brother mistakes. I say all of this because this thread seems like a fitting place to do so. One day I’ll have a stash of nice aged tobacco’s in my cellar to be able to gift from and the experience to be able to help the newer generation of pipe smokers. It’s for sure part of my long term plan now.

As far as I can tell, this is like the secret Santa, or a box pass. Which is allowed. Contests are not allowed.

But please, someone explain this to me like Im 5.
I think the perceived contest came in with "the first person to do...." and created rules for winning.. Not an expert myself and no dog in the fight so I don't really care about the final decision. I know you and the other mods do a great job so whatever you decide is fine by me, for what little that's worth. This forum and the members have been good to me so another kind thread calling that out is nice to see.

In other words, there were rules to win the pipe....do we care?

It's kind of like the difference between a lottery and a raffle.

I'm not a mod, but if I were, that's how I'd look at it. It's not really a giveaway, because if you participate, you have to give, so it's more like trading, you're just trading externally forward rather than internally between two parties. I'd let it ride unless people started getting to be crybabies and sore losers about it.

It's just a different way of figuring out the order for the "box pass", but you still have to pass something.

At least to me, that makes it different than a contest.

And I won't presume to know the reasoning or spirit behind the "no contests" rule, but I would imagine it's due to two possibilities: potential legal issues, and to prevent abuse by companies for free advertising... the latter of which is a non-issue here so far.

The no contest rule came about, if I remember correctly, from some sponsors creating ones of their own. That led to some members doing the same and the butthurt became strong with this one. A bit reductive but that was the general idea.

I've been on cigar forums for 2 decades and box passes/pay it forwards/secret santas have been a thing for a long time. I'm new to this site and the pedantry here always surprises me. Rules are rules, but I guess life is peppered with wet blankets who like getting other people into trouble.

I thought this was a nice gesture and is more in line with what other forums do.

Well, as long as this thread is still up, and no moderators have spoken, I will make my offer.
Up for your consideration is this once smoked Irwins Papoose #7 Prince.
Made by GBD, but due to obvious fills, didn't make the grade.
I have another one I've smoked a bunch and can attest these are well made pipes with great wood. Fantastic grain, but the fills are monstrous. The fills disappear with smoking. The stem is starting to oxidize, so be warned....it's an old pipe. Best guess is prior to 1960??
If you want it, it goes to the first one to pipe up. :) If you end up hating it, you will also get a few very well aged tobacco samples of your choice. Come on, I know you want a filled Prince!!
I can take more pictures if necessary.

A Prince is one of the shapes I do not have in my collection, and I would be happy to take it from you and pay it forward, @Sig!
