Couldn't agree more with everyone here. I was gifted a 4 year old tin not long ago. UNBELIEVABLE. Great fresh, great aged. Great always. Buy as much as you can when you can and never run out.
Bathe in it, Sprinkle some on your shirt before a date, put it on your oatmeal...
Kidding! But you get my point. It's amazing

I decided to smoke nothing but similar Virginias for a week, and Golden Slices came in third place out of the three. I tested Erinmore Flake, McClelland 2010 Classic Virginia, and the Orlik Golden Slices. I certainly don't think the Golden Slices was bad, it is a good solid tobacco. But based on my palate, I preferred the natural sweetness of the McClelland the most, with a close second the ever so slightly flavored Erinmore. I'll happily smoke up my remaining two tins of Golden Slices, but probably won't buy more going forward.

I have some tins in the cellar. This is one of the few flakes that I fold and stuff.

I purchased a 100 gm tin of Orlick Golden Sliced. My original idea was to use it to reset my palate. As a Latikia fiend, that seems to be a requirement from time to time. After smoking 2 pipes of OGS, I have decided that a purchase of 5 100 gm tins is a must.

About five years ago the Rattrays VA Hal o' the Wynd and Heinrich Special Curly and several other tobaccos that heretofore had been accepted as straight VA suddenly became VA/Periques, almost in the same way that we found out that what was labeled as straight VA usually included some burley. It seemed, inexplicably, that blenders rethought straight VA and made it VA/Perique/burley, but it small amounts. It seemed that all the blenders started doing this, at the same time. So OGS became a straight VA that changed along the same lines? I think so.

I've been pacing myself and only buy new tobacco on pay days.

Last pay day I narrowed it down to OGS or 3 Nuns.

So far I'm not really liking the 3 Nuns (packaged April 2014) and now I read this thread...
Next time

Lann after I first smoked my first bowl of this blend I fell in love and went through a tin in the matter of days, so I went and ordered 5 more tins then another 6 the next week. I don't smoke it exclusively, but it is always in my rotation.
Mike wether it is a straight Virginia or a Va/Bar I will keep smoking it. I just like the blend. As I have heard many times in here "Smoke what you like, and like what you smoke."
shur I would definitely recommend it, but smoke it slow or you will get a tong bite.

I've got some in tins but I haven't tried any yet.

From all I've read and all I've sampled of other VA flakes,I'm sure it'll be nice to smoke. Price isn't too bad either.

I have begun to really savor anything I've got in tins and utilize my bulks and codgers as all day smokes.

Codgers aren't as economical as some very excellent bulk blends, but they're consistent and quite satisfying.

PS and Newminster both offer VA flakes that are quality tobacco.

Call me a shrewd judge, but it's one of my top 10's.

Sometimes I mix a smidge of Dunhill English in with it. It's very good that way.
