I'm not into rituals unless it is something really special. When I open a tin of McClelland, I take the time to savor the tin note for a bit. Then I smoke it.

I am still new to this and have mostly smoked stuff from bulk but the few tins I have opened have been a real pleasure. I love popping the top of a C&D-like tin or breaking the seal on the flatter brass looking tins like Peterson's. The i soak up the aroma and view the leaf and papers. Transfer to a mason jar and label and date the jar appropriately and set it on the shelf in my office - not sun exposed of course. I usually go back to the empty tin for a few more whiffs. So far I am saving my empty tins (I only have a few). Not sure that's a ritual but its what I do
Birthdays are special.
For years I have taken a day off work. It's MY day to do whatever I feel like doing.
Except for the past few years I've included my wife in the decision making. So now it's often doing what SHE feels like doing. One of these days I'll reclaim MY day. ?

I haven't celebrated birthdays in decades. I feel like every day is my day and if I am fortunate when I wake up, it is.
The only ritual I have is to remove all the second and third piece of card board and keep the one that describes the tobacco.
To me its all a ritual. New Tin Arrives.
1. I pop the top and listen for the hiss with a smile on my lips
2. Existing supply pop the lid, close eyes, inhale the savory sweetness
3. Dance fingers through tobacco or select and inhale a coin
4. Caress the pipe lovingly
5. Fill pipe with reverence while thanking God for this luxurious leaf
6. Admire the beauty of the lighter
7. Cross eyes during the charring light so I don't miss the embers lighting up
8. Tamp delicately and relight
9. Hold pipe in hand while puffing gently to coax ignition
10. First few sips ponder the pipe, the universe and my place in it.
11. Sit back puffing while enjoying the slight warmth under my nose.
12. Smoke pipe while pondering the female form, a 10 lbs bass, waves on the beach, sunset, moon rise
13. etc etc
14. Clean up pipe, place back in rack with care, lovingly select next tin from the harem for tomorrow.

1) Open tin.
2) Dump contents into a jar.
3) Throw away tin.
4) Fill pipe.
5) Light pipe.
6) Do yardwork, home/car maintenance, or go to work.
7) Dump pipe.
8) Clean pipe.
9) Toss pipe into box.
When I open a new tin, I commit it to the ashes.

I didn’t know this was allowed! I’ve got a list of those I’d like to sacrifice. Dammit, so many wasted opportunities. ?

No rituals. I smoke what I want when I want to. 
No special rituals related to pipe tobacco. All of pipe smoking is a ritual that is repeated again and again. I very much enjoy that aspect of it but there is no part I am saving for a special occasion.
Every year, on 7th or 8th december I decorate my Christmas Tree and open a special tin, from the cellar or maybe of tobacco never smoked before...
It's nice and fantastic, to have rituals with your hobbies and things you love. Go ahead my friend.
Take knife. Cut up tobacco. Stuff into the bigger hole on the pipe. Stick smaller hole into mouth. Set fire to the bigger hole. Enjoy. Bitch about why the plug you carry around in your jacket pocket doesn't taste like it did 10/30/100 years ago. Variations on this include remarking that you have smoked it in 'a clay pipe/it tastes great in a clay pipe/please send me some to smoke in my clay pipe'. More advanced mutterings on appreciating opening of new tins include the use of the word 'Rumination' which I have always taken as a substitute for the word 'Masturbation' but YMMV.
Happy Birthday! The only ritual I really have when opening a new tin is to put most of it in a mason jar and vacuum seal it. I always leave some in the original tin and will use that over the next few days or weeks until its gone. Nothing special yet for specific days such as birthdays.
