Hello,
I used to smoke a pipe in the day. Kinda miss it…anyway I came across this old family pipe that has sat on shelf forever and has been passed down. Not sure year or maker and the story of it has been lost. Maybe someone can fill in the gaps?
Thanks in advance!

Sounds like you have a better idea of how this came about. The bowl looks very similar in the type of wood. Could they all be from separate time period?

Haha, not the slightest. I just had the impression that some things do not really fit and try to figure out why.

I have done some research in the meantime and found some similar pipes. I send you a link per pn, as mods are not in favour of ebay listings posted here.

Bowl and shank are from a so called "Münsterländer Gesteckpfeife", named after the Münsterland region in the west of Germany. And they indeed have smooth shanks and carved bowls

The stem is a replacement. Originally these pipes have a vertically straight stem made from a raw wooden stick or deer antlers. Yours is bent and looks like ebonite in the lower part.

Dating your pipe is difficult, as similar stuff is still produced to this day. I found one similar piece that was dated 1930.

I don't think anything was done with the bowl. The repaired parts start with the silver ring and the black ebonite structure above. Have you seen the image in your pn? That's how it looked like in the first place.

Sorry about that. I navigate this on my phone like a drunken sailor. 😉. Trying to find my pn…
