The other day I went out on a limb and bought an Old Dominion Cob pipe online. It hasn't arrived yet, but has anyone ever smoked one of these before? I don't know much about them and some feedback would be great.

Our pipe club ordered 20 of them for our anniversary and everyone that smoked them said the draw was perfect and it smoked cool. I enjoyed mine a great deal. I think K you're in good shape once it arrives.

I'd also add that they are easy to clench and that the bowl in the Laughing King smoked bigger than it looks. Which model did you order?

As a citizen of the beautiful commonwealth of Virginia, I had no idea this company existed. I will definitely have to order a few pipes from them as soon as I have the money. When I smoke cobs, I only smoke Missouri Meerschaum, but it looks like Old Dominion has some quality pipes too. I wouldn't mind having a few of those in my rotation. Thanks Eolverine for posting this. Another reason I love this site is because I find out neat information like this.

@deuce26 That was the question in the back of my head when I was ordering them. But I am pleased to say that the round bit was actually easy to clench and was surprisingly comfortable.

Another thread about Old Dominion pipes here.

Lots of info. Even the company owners chimed in.
EDIT: Fixed the link.

I'm thinking of picking one up for my renewed interest in aromatics for the warmer weather. Glad to hear some positive input about them. Let us know whatcha think when it arrives eolverine!

I would have ordered an Old Dominion weeks ago, but I want to buy one in person at the TAPS pipe show

April 12 in NC, so I can have the choice on color. I haven't seen a corn cob pipe with a bamboo stem since

I was a kid many moons ago. I may go for the smaller bowl, to balance some of my big old briars.

Eolverine, I'd say you are in for a first class smoke. I have lots of fine briars, but I also enjoy my cobs. I have several of the Old Dominions and I'll tell you that they're as fine a pipe as I've ever smoked. They're quite different in taste from the Missouri Meerschaums-- I love 'em both--but they are distinctly different. Enjoy your new pipe.

I just got a couple in, the Laughing King and the Chesapeake. They were both WAY smaller than I thought. The Laughing king is really really small (even smaller than a MM Eaton/Pony Express!) and the Chesapeake is flat-out tiny. These almost seem more like novelties than smoking pipes. A golf tee barely fits in the Chesapeake.
That said, the craftsmanship is impeccable.
I hope to pick up a VA Planter at TAPS in about a week, assuming it's not too little.

I got a Laughing King my Czech poker just fits inside ,good for flakes and a twenty minute smoke .The stem is great and the whole pipe makes for a sweet smoke .The corn meal is even better than the pipe . I will get a planter next go around .

As for being tiny, the "Chesapeake" has pictures at the Old Dominion site as well as stating the chamber is only 1/2" in diameter. That is why I got one, I wanted a small sampler pipe that would only be in the 10 min range.

I know this is an old thread, but I found it while considering a buy, and I figure other people will too. So I thought I'd share that I just got a Laughing King and it doesn't seem small to me at all. For comparison, here are a couple of pics next to my Peterson 314. The bowl is almost exactly the same diameter, and it's deeper on the Laughing King.

I didn't care for the small bowl cobs. In fact my first Old Dominion burned thru after only 5 smokes. I decided not to give up on the Old Dominion Cobs. This year I've purchased 4 of the larger bowls and have been very pleased. They smoke great, just as good as a Missouri Meerschaum. I don't clench the reed stem but do enjoy them. Kind of takes me back to the times when all cobs came with a reed stem.

I have enjoyed my couple of cobs from them. One I replaced the bottom with a bit of briar. They are very very light, so easy to clench, although the shape of the clench is not the same, more like a clay. I will dust one off tomorrow, it has been years since I smoked one I think.

I kind of like how small diameter the bowl was because it meant I bothered to use a tamper since my little finger could not fit.
