Lizzie Borden's pipeWonder how many bowls after the pipe was split? Maybe it was hit with an axe.
All jokes aside for me, can anything actually be done with a pipe that gets this bad? Genuinely curious here.I thought it might be interesting to have a thread where we could post up some pics of ads / listings / auctions that just make you scratch your head.
Case in point,

That's a lot of coin for a dead pipe IMO

Briar dust, epoxy, and a meerschaum insert.I think this is too far gone to be saved. Maybe a little crack can be repaired with a band of some briar dust and glue, but not anything this severe.
That one can be re-stemmed and plugged.A delightful idea for a thread--thank you mikethompson! At least from what I've seen on Ebay in recent months, I suspect Dunhill is going to be the hands down winner for incinerated, well-chewed wrecks covered in fowl smelling filth presented as rare collectibles in auctions with ludicrously high opening bids, or let us say optimistic buy-it-now prices.
My own favorite is this sad case, a dark root 1936 pot missing its stem:
VTG USED DUNHILL PIPE 352 MADE IN ENGLAND, as is hole at bottom no stem | eBay
Find many great new & used options and get the best deals for VTG USED DUNHILL PIPE 352 MADE IN ENGLAND, as is hole at bottom no stem at the best online prices at eBay! Free shipping for many products!www.ebay.com
Of course what makes it potentially interesting--at least for a master restorer such as georged--is that it appears to have a Vernon tenon with all four of its prongs that might be salvaged to repair another pipe. This even if this one is both stemless and totally toast.

Or another Japanese tradition. An alternative strategy might be to emulate the Japanese method for the repair of shattered porcelain called "Kintsugi"--

But the white dot is still visible, that alone should be worth at least $1,000 premium...that's what they upcharge their new pipes for the white dot.I thought it might be interesting to have a thread where we could post up some pics of ads / listings / auctions that just make you scratch your head.
