I picked this up while antiquing with my daughter. Not a pipe; it is a meer cheroot holder.

I have no idea how old it is, and I don't normally smoke cigars, but I couldn't walk away. Does anybody know more about these or have other specimens?

I've seen them all over ebay and somehow I don't see the point. Part of the pleasure of a cigar to me is the taste of the wrapper in my mouth.

A cheroot, from what I found on google, was cut square on both ends. I suppose the holder would keep the filler out of your teeth and control the draw? Must be from the same period as cigarette holders?
