The other week I spotted a Nording Compass on SP that had unusually nice looking grain for the series. It looked like it could produce ring grain if blasted, but also had some nice straight grain, so I sent it off to my friend Josh Ronish with Dragon Briars (@dragonbriars) for a quick contrast blast. I must say he did excellent work, and removing the logo from the bottom also produced some nice birdseye. Not bad for a $50 pipe, eh?

Great eye catching the potential of the stummel. Tom Eltang spoke about these small blocks saying they were incredibly cheap for the quality you got, so its a little surprising the factories don't take more advantage of the grain.
